I have always worked in the hospitality sector having started as a waiter for Marriott Hotels before studying for my BA degree in Hospitality Management at Bournemouth University. During this course, I worked for a year in San Diego, California at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. Further to graduating, I became the Restaurant and Room Service Manager at Cardiff Marriott Hotel during the 1999 Rugby World cup which was an incredible experience for me as a Rugby fan, hosting many of the teams at the hotel including their relaxation areas and even resulted in me playing a game of table tennis with Jonah Lomu watching on! I then progressed through the ranks with Marriott Hotels to Operations Director working in Bristol, Portsmouth, Kent and Essex.
During this time, I managed multi million pound renovations of hotels receiving awards for the innovation included in the works and all completed whilst the hotels remained open.
I moved back to Bristol in 2010 after getting married to Hayley and having a daughter, Megan, now seven. I joined Compass Group looking after the single biggest site in the UK which was a very complex and secretive site due to the work they carried out there. This brought many challenges particularly around the use of technology and taking 12 months for anyone to get clearance to work there!
Further to promotion, I became Regional Manager leading 10 contracts from London through Bristol and up to the Cotswolds, each with their own challenges and opportunities. During this time, I secured extensions for four of the contracts including a five year extension on the largest contract.
I am extremely proud to be leading this contract and the partnership with JLR. They have experienced an incredible amount of growth over the past few years and I am excited for Compass Group to grow with them over the years to come. We have a fantastic mix of people in the team with some joining us from other contract caterers providing new thoughts and ideas, Subject Matter Experts bringing the knowledge of Compass Group and existing team members from the JLR account providing much needed site expertise.
The proposal which you can view on this website contains innovation, cutting edge technology, high profile culinary relationships and is all underpinned by improving the customer experience. During the tender process we were advised that we want ‘Google to be coming to us to see how it is done’. This is our challenge and I have no doubt that we will achieve it together.
I appreciate that this will be a time of uncertainty with such change for many of the team joining Compass Group however I have built an account management structure that will provide a high level of support and guidance so please introduce yourselves to them and ask as many questions as you wish.
